It was every parent's worst nightmare.
Ron awoke to the sound of his ten-year-old daughter having a seizure, certainly frightening, but not unusual. Madeline was being seen by doctors for what was thought to be a neurological condition.
Upon running to his daughter, it became clear this was not a "normal" seizure. Ron watched his daughter take her last breath. She was in cardiac arrest.
Ron called for help and began CPR. Thinking back on the day, he remembered juggling the phone, worrying that he wasn't doing CPR right and thinking, "I've got to do this. I've got to keep my daughter alive." The paramedics arrived and shocked Madeline's heart multiple times before transporting her to the hospital, where she eventually received an implanted defibrillator.
Madeline, Ron and Bridget share their story with the hope that more people will come to understand the importance of knowing CPR. When asked if he had advice for others, Ron stated, "Learn CPR. Don't panic. Get help on the way and never, never give up."
